Externship: Day 8

Today I finished cutting the templates I had made for the traveling box needed for th model I had done. I included an edit by a team member who sat behind me to leave an opening as handles to help carry the box. With only a little glueing left and the front piece connection to consider I am glad that the entire model and…

Externship: Day 7

After putting my lunch in the fridge and making a cup of tea I started the computer to get right back into SketchUp. Clearly I did this model the long way because it has taken far far too long in my opinion. After building in groups, exploding, realigning, regrouping, and editing on revised documents and models I am happy to say it is probably…

Externship: Day 6

Today was another day at the computer working through SketchUp. Revit gave me some trouble opening and letting me see things. After asking some nearby people for help I discovered I wasn’t messing the file up and could in fact measure and “move” as needed. Midway through the day I broke for lunch with two of the CGA members. Both had looked over my…

Externship: Day 5

Today was a busy day! The physical model is near complete. I was entrusted with working the offices 3D printer a Cubicon. After a quick tutorial on the offices preferences  I completed two of three prints. The last print is running overnight. Tomorrow morning I will check on the last print. Once cleaned all three prints will be glued into place and voila! model…

Externship: Day 2

Today went as swimmingly as yesterday! I returned to completing the site model. The few individual choices made were aesthetic in nature, which color to border the model, how much to sand or cut the 3-D prints, and how to trim and border the streets. More of the office members stopped around to chat. Honestly the location of my worktable probably helped. I moved…

Externship: Day 1

Today was exciting! I arrived early and was greeted very warmly by Ashley, a staff memeber who handles a number of tasks from front desk to ordering supplies. Ashley assisted me with setting up my computer, showing me the office (kitchen, supply room, material library, and general work spaces).  Just before the office tour I met Christine, who I had emailed with confirming this…

Externship: Day 0

Today was a calm day of travel and preparation. The Megabus from Philadelphia to NYC departed and arrived on time. I settled into my temporary accommodations making sure to keep my new work clothes straight and neat. Once unpacked and acquainted with the apartment I went for a long walk. I walked from the apartment to the office of Curtis+Ginesburg, then to the bank,…

Externship Excitement! Application Process

“History” References

Probably one of the most interesting history classes this semester was the last one. Rather than lecture for roughly two hours on a topic most students have not yet begun to understand through the readings, the professor decided to share links to modern day organizations making an impact on architecture.   http://whobuilds.org/ https://www.forensic-architecture.org/ http://architecture-lobby.org/ https://faacweb.wordpress.com/ http://www.thelivingnewyork.com/ http://proactivepractices.org/   https://www.archdaily.com/ https://www.dezeen.com/ https://www.architecturaldigest.com/ If you know…
